What is “Mindful Acceptance”?

The foundation of Mindfulness is Acceptance.

We talk about accepting the “now” with equanimity, but how does one do this when the “now” is a situation that is full of pain?

Jon Kabat-Zinn (JKZ  )says that accepting things the way they are is not the same as being passively resigned to a situation.  It’s about having the freedom to stand in the moment without having to make it any different. It’s seizing the actuality of the moment, so that if you do decide to act, you can do so “from a place of emotional intelligence, instead of being hijacked by whatever your feelings are about what you can’t accept “ (JKZ, 2006)



About Judith Lissing

Judith Lissing is a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Wellness Coach, with 15 years experience in teaching stress management and meditation. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Immunology and a Masters degree in Public Health, both from the University of NSW. She is also an Associate Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of NSW since 1999. Judith is trained in Wellness Coaching with Wellcoaches U.S. and holds a Diploma in Hypnotherapy. Prior to coaching professionally, Judith held a statewide management role with NSW Health working with all levels of staff across the health sector.
