How to Suffer Less

Added on November 1, 2011

Everyone wants to stress less and enjoy life more.

But stress is a fact of life.

There will always be good days and bad days, joyful and sad days… and that’s OK.

Take each day as it comes, accept what is.

That’s not to say you shouldn’t try to improve your life, to seek happiness wherever you can find it.

But in that “seeking”, acknowledge the potential for suffering if you don’t get what you want.

There is a Buddhist saying: “Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional”.

Pain is everywhere, so we try to change what we can, and accept what can’t be changed – accept it without suffering as a fact of life.

It is a fact of life that there will always be ups and downs, but as Jon Kabat-Zinn says: “You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf”!

Mastering Mindfulness is one way of learning to surf.

Mindfulness Meditation course starts this Saturday 5 Nov at 12:30pm.
